What we like
While the upfront cost of a hydroponic garden might be a turn-off to some, the return on investment is well worth it.
Paying $2.99 -$4.99 + for chives, thyme, basil, etc. can add up, especially if you are cooking constantly. Not to mention, food waste is always high (how often are you using all your herbs before they wither away?)
These hydroponic growing systems take little-to-no-time to set up (around 30mins) and after a week or so, they start producing. They also make for great gifts.
The product in the picture measures around 14″ long by 12″ high depending on how high you set the LED tower.
We especially appreciate the fact that this product uses VERY little water (recirculates constantly) and makes a small impact environmentally. For a southern-Californian, this contributes FAR less to the drought than an outdoor planter and it’s far less labor.
For this product specifically you can grow both fruit and herbs. Also, because you grow this in hour house, you don’t need to fight off pests like squirrels eating your strawberries in your yard.
What we don’t like
While the herbs are an attractive sight in a kitchen, the look of the structure itself is… alright.
It doesn’t bother us a lot, but the garden does emit a purple-ish light every 8hours, but if you don’t mind the light it’s fine.
You will have to buy your own seeds, so know that ahead of time if you plan on planting right when the garden arrives.
While this product produces enough for a couple that cooks 3-4 days a week, this is a bit small.
