Breville: The Smart Oven® Air Fryer
Rating: A-
Cost: $320
Description
“The Smart Oven Air Fryer powered by our Element iQ® system delivers maximum performance and versatility. Smart algorithms replicate the ideal cooking environment for air fry and 10 additional cooking techniques. Higher temperatures and super convection speeds up cooking time with great crispness.”
Pros:
- This convection oven comes with 10 unique cooking settings, including a proofing setting, dehydrator, and air fry. The oven takes very little time to preheat <5mins and the convection/super convection settings allow for a great/even bake.
- Some may say that this oven is too large (I myself thought it might be as well when I first saw how large the box was), however at 21.4 x 17.2 x 12.8 inches – it allows for a standard 10 inch stainless steal fry pan to fit snugly (great for finishing a steak or a rack of lamb). The oven also fits with the door minimally hanging over on a standard depth bar. Refer to picture above.
- Extremely well designed, with a full stainless steal exterior. The oven is also virtually smokeless.
Cons:
- First and foremost the biggest con is the price. If you can fork up the funds though, this convection toaster oven is extremely practical and because its smaller than your traditional oven, you will surly save energy.
- The proofing setting is a very nice addition for an avid bread baker, allowing you to proof at a wide range of temps. However the timer only lasts 2 hours, and for sourdough bread baking I wish the timer wasn’t as limited.
- Lastly, if you use the Air Fry setting, it can be somewhat difficult to clean.
hOmeLabs Digital Countertop Convection Oven
Rating: B-
Price: $89
Description:
This counter top toaster oven uses convection heating technology to circulate warm air throughout the appliance for quick and evenly baking or cooking. Built with a large capacity, LCD display, and flexible rack positions.
Pros:
- The hOmeLabs convection oven is a good bang for your buck if you are okay with limited cooking options.
- This product is also designed well ascetically with a similar profile to the more expensive Breville on this list
- Practically sized (smaller than the Breville) and light weight
Cons:
- Over the year that I owned this toaster oven, I used an oven thermometer to verify the temps compared to the settings. Under the 300 degrees the temperature listed on oven was higher than the actual temperature output. Strangely, when set 400 degrees or higher, the actual temp output was much higher (15-20degrees) than what was set on the oven.
- Limited settings so no Air Fry, Proof, or Dehydrator
I’m so glad I stumbled upon this review. I honestly had no idea that these ovens could fit so much. It’ll be perfect in my rental apartment kitchen, where I don’t want to pay to replace the cheap old oven.
just bought one and I absolutely love it! My bread came out so much better with it!
