Books to make you suck less at baking sourdough

The community of at home bakers is relatively small but I think it’s important to support local business and bakers alike. That’s why I wanted to compile a short list of a few cookbooks that helped start me on my sourdough journey. This list is in no specific order and each book is valuable for different reasons.

  1. Flour Water Salt Yeast: The Fundamentals of Artisan Bread and Pizza by Ken Forkish

This book is an excellent introduction into bread making. Ken is a tremendous baker that followed his passion and started his first bakery later in his life. The bakery (Ken’s Artisan Bakery) is in Portland and while I did stop by on one occasion and had a rather obtuse experience with the baker at the shop, I still wanted to make sure to credit Ken’s work and thank him for getting me into bread making.

2. Tartine Bread by Chad Robertson

This is probably the most popular book on sourdough in the U.S. to my knowledge and Chad is one of the first (that I know of) to bringing true old fashioned European bread making techniques to the U.S. There is a lot of knowledge in this book as the overload of photos makes the process easily understandable. Highly suggest and as an added plus the book itself is really high quality and looks good on a coffee table.

How'd it go?
